Spotlight on LSD’s costly impact

TO UNDERSTAND her subjects, full-time artist Chiang Sook Siang visited the clinic where they were receiving their doses of enzyme replacement therapy every day for a month.

That is why it comes as no surprise that Chiang knows them by name, including their stories of survival as lysosomal storage disease (LSD) sufferers.

One of her subjects is Rachel Sim, 29, a lawyer who was diagnosed with Morquio syndrome at age two. One hears the pride in Chiang’s voice in revealing Sim as a finalist in Miss Amazing Malaysia 2019, a beauty pageant for the differently abled.Entitled “Rare Lives”, Chiang was inspired to take on the charity mission after meeting Malaysia Lysosomal Diseases Association (MLDA) president Lee Yee Seng.
